In 2023 The Reporters’ Academy was commissioned by The King’s Trust (Formerly The Prince’s Trust) to deliver hands-on media training through the “Level Up” programme. This immersive two-day course gave young people the opportunity to explore filmmaking, editing, and the media industry, inspiring them to pursue creative careers.
Task
We were tasked with designing an interactive course to teach young participants media production skills and provide insight into the behind the scenes of MediaCityUK.
Action
- Hosted workshops covering camera operation, filming techniques, and editing with Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Led a scavenger hunt at MediaCityUK, encouraging participants to capture creative shots of iconic landmarks.
- Conducted a behind-the-scenes tour of Dock10 Studios and facilitated a Q&A session with industry experts.
- Invited guest speaker Becci Dyson, a BBC Producer Director, to share their experiences and advice.
Result/Impact
- Participants gained confidence, communication skills, and practical knowledge in media production.
- The programme culminated in a wrap-up film, showcasing the group’s work and achievements.
