Kazan reporting from the 2015 FINA World Swimming Championships – Kazan<br />

The Reporters’ Academy was commissioned by RCPCH &Us (Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health’s children and young people’s engagement team) to bring youth voices to the 2023 RCPCH Annual Conference in Glasgow. This innovative collaboration provided 10 young people with opportunities to develop their media and storytelling skills while amplifying the work of RCPCH &Us to a broader audience.

The Task

We were tasked with equipping young people to create engaging media content and manage live social media coverage during the three-day conference.

What We Did

  • Delivered three virtual preparation workshops to teach video creation and interview techniques.
  • Guided the “Scrubs Gang” (the youth cohort) in producing three films shown at the conference, covering topics such as childhood health and what RCPCH &Us means to young people.
  • Supported live reporting and social media storytelling throughout the event.
  • hosted the group of young people at Mediacity in Salford and delivered face to face training in our inspiring head quarters.

Children and Young People’s Engagement Manager, Client Quote:

“It’s honestly been brilliant to showcase a different way of working for the College, so huge thanks for all your support with it”

Result/Impact

  • Social media content reached a wide audience, highlighting the voices and experiences of young participants.
    • Young people gained transferable skills in media production, reporting, and teamwork.
    • Three impactful films showcased to conference attendees.
